Obesity – The Roadblock to a Healthy Life and How Homeopathy can Help

Maintaining proper body weight in proportion to your height is extremely important to enjoy a healthy and happy life. However, many people find it hard to manage their weight and face issues of being overweight and obese, which are thought to be one and the same by many. In fact, being overweight is slightly different from being obese. Overweight and obesity are health conditions that present a risk to health due to excessive fat accumulation in the body which are measured with the body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference. Usually, a BMI of more than 25 makes a person overweight and a BMI of more than 30 makes a person obese.

What is BMI?

Body mass index is a measurement through which a person’s weight is measured with respect to his/her height. It is used to check if a person’s weight is within appropriate levels and if he/she is prone to health risks associated with overweight and obesity. The BMI of a person is related to the total body fat of that person which means that if the BMI increases, the total body fat of that person also increases.

Obesity factors:

There are multiple factors that lead to obesity in a person and many times, obesity is a result of a combination of these factors. Common factors that result in obesity are – excessive food intake without control, lack of physical activity and exercises, genetic disorders, endocrine disorders, mental disorders, slow metabolism or certain medications.

Health risks associated with high BMI and obesity:

  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Heart diseases and stroke
  • High blood pressure
  • Gall bladder diseases
  • Sleep apnea and snoring
  • Premature death
  • Joint diseases etc.

Obesity and Homeopathy:

Obesity is a complex disorder that affects not only physical health but also impacts a person’s emotional and mental well-being as well. Many people tend to get depressed over their obese look because of the widespread body shaming that is common everywhere and this again leads to stress and other psychological issues also. Another issue with obese people is that some people may even find it challenging to do their routine work due to their excess weight and physique. Hence, it is required that obese people are not just treated for physical health issues but also their emotional well being and this is not possible in the conventional medicine system.
Homeopathy believes in the holistic treatment of a person and takes into consideration all the physical, mental and emotional aspects of a patient that help in healing the person thoroughly. For this, a homeopath will understand a patient’s health history and body constitution in detail and then arrive at a suitable constitutional remedy that treats obesity in such a way that the treatment doesn’t disturb the patient’s routine.
To get the best results, patients should not shy away while revealing their eating habits, lifestyle habits and other health conditions if any. Believing in your Homeopath is the first step towards reducing weight in a healthy way.
